The Musings of a Nomadic Artist in the 21st Century
We had originally planned to be back on the road the 29th of October, to head up to the campground in Western PA where we lease and work on the trailer there. When Anaphys dropped the belly pan and looked beneath the Airstream, however, plans changed rapidly. There was a crack clean through the frame of the trailer and it need to be repaired. Right. Now.
So nearly a week after we were slated to be on the road to the Sideshow Gathering, we have had to bow out of that and now take on the task of making our trailer livable once more. What does an unlivable trailer look like, you ask? Here ya go.
Tomorrow is the day we spend cleaning it all up. Rather, I will be cleaning it up since Anaphys did all the work to repair absolutely everything because I have no knowledge of the subject of Airstream restoration as yet. This will be changing in the next year but this past week was not the time for that to occur.
Fortunately I’ve got some last minute tattooing fit in so that we can replenish our spent coffers before heading south for our next gig on the Gulf Coast. We’ll be ready for some beach. Now would be great, actually.
Thanks to everyone at Handmade Tattoo for making it possible for us to live and repair our home here. It would have been impossible for us to achieve this without you and your mad skills. We are grateful in the extreme to be able to travel safely once more.
It is humbling to rely on the kindness of others when you’re naturally an independent soul, but there is nothing like a traveling lifestyle to remind you that a reliance on other people is not a weakness but a wonderful part of living life fully. It’s all about that Connection Paradigm, baby. And if you you don’t know what I’m referring to, go back a few posts and click on the link in “Join the Revolution”.
To all our Freaky Tribe currently in Wilkes-Barre, we miss you and we are sad to not see you, but there’s always 2010, and that will be worth the wait.
Lest you think I’ve shirked on my commitment to AEDM, I have scanned and posted this still-in-progress tattoo styled piece upon which I’ve been working for the last few days.
I’ve done a lot of carp and koi tattoos in my life. A. Lot. So for a snazzy change of pace I decided earlier this year to begin designing a bunch of traditional style tattoos with a paleo theme as the common thread. I’m just now getting around to it and not a moment too soon. The idea seems to have caught on and I’ve found a few other talented artists out there who independently came to the same awesome decision and have drawn some fantastic pieces.
But since none of them are me and the word “independently” is involved I’m still moving forward with the idea and forging ahead into the land of Pigmas and Bristol board.
Angst much?
ANYway … Here’s the lineart for the first: Dunkelosteous a la traditional koi. Working on a Coelacanth (my FAVE!) for the next one. Should have that one up for perusal tomorrow, right after I write about what’s been consuming my time of late.
Onwards and upwards.
We are currently in NoVa for a week or so later than planned, getting some much needed Airstream repairs completed. We have, fortunately, a welder to call for the most major repair, and a place to do said repair, a rare gift in the NoVa area with its deep abiding love of Homeowners Associations.
As we wait for the weather to improve to commence said welding we are getting some (also) much needed grooming taken care of and so my first art offering this AEDM is for our fearless hairdresser, who generously has made a house call today to our very very empty apartment. She will be taking the original home with her.
In other news Brundlefly just tried to eat my left eyebrow. Never a dull moment with a very active adolescent sphynx in the family.
One of
my new daily reads is Leah Piken Kolidas’ Creative Every Day. Every November, annually, Leah invites all of us creative types, and everyone else who might be interested, to join with her in creating a new piece of art every single day of the month.
This sounded to me like a great way to begin the New Year, so here goes! Join in the fun and share your work with the rest of us!
Stop what you’re doing, click on this link, then download and thoroughly read the PDF file to be found there.
Seriously. It’s that important.
Thanks to Pace and Kyeli for their tireless efforts on the behalf of the rest of us who feel we don’t have what it takes to change the world, and for reminding us that, oh yes, we DO.
